"This past summer, my girlfriend asked if I wanted to get a team together for the Mud Run in August. Without a second thought, I said no. I had done this race a few years earlier and it is very, very hard. Most of this race is up and down hills of sand on the Navy base."
"Then she told me Jim White was setting up a Boot Camp down at the oceanfront. It was going to be for 6 weeks, meeting at 5:30 a.m. on Friday mornings. Reluctantly, I gave it a try. It was a little hard for me to get up that early, but—wow—being down at the oceanfront at 5:30 a.m.… sun just coming up... much, much, cooler that time of morning!"
"Jim started us with a warm-up—running a little on the boardwalk—then we hit the sand. He had us running on the sand, in the water and doing push-ups. It was a lot of hard work, but I have to admit, it was really a lot of fun. I actually could not wait for Friday mornings."
"So we did our six weeks of Boot Camp and the big Mud Run race day was here. I cannot even explain the difference between this time and the last. Because of our training with Jim, this time was soooo much easier! We had a great time and my team ended up coming in 6th place, just a minute or two out of 4th and 5th—out of 17 all-girl teams. Without Jim's Boot Camp, there is no way we would have done so well. I am so looking forward to the start of the next Boot Camp!!"
